Apache again

Unfortunately, PHP and/or Mysql have massive problems with multiple threads… so there is some trouble in using them with AOLserver :-(.

It would even be a problem to use them with Apache2 mpm-worker… so in the end it seems that I am stuck with Apache/single thread for a while, at least until I can upgrade my site to use OpenACS or similar instead of WordPress – which is not going to happen in the near future.

Hmm maybe I really should finish Rivet for Apache2 somewhen…. No, not now.

Welcome to my new home in cyberspace

Tataaaa – here it is: my old site on a new virtual User Mode Linux server. Did you recognize ;-)?

My old provider is still very good, I was always satisfied with his service and performance. But requirements have changed. I didn’t want the Apache/PHP/MySQL thing any more and want to check out alternatives. You can only do that when you run your own server.

Secondly – and more important – I need a version control system. My personal spare time work has reached a stage where I have lots of manpower on my personal harddisk drive, without proper backup. If the drive crashes one day, all my work will be lost. The solution is to get it into backup and under version control on my own server. Sourceforge accounts are not useful, sometimes I don’t want the things to be public. Also, for projects like Itcl, I want to make it work for me – and this is not always what is going in the public releases. So the control of my own versions is still up to me.

Now, that I can have it running, I feel much more comfortable.
